KING CITY — In a continued effort to combat pet overpopulation, SPCA Monterey County is offering free spay/neuter clinics for cats in South Monterey County, including King City and Soledad, with several appointments still available.

Sponsored by Hitchcock Road Animal Services and staffed by the SPCA’s veterinary team, these clinics are designed for South County residents, addressing the needs of both feral and friendly cats.

“This initiative is in addition to our low-cost Veterinary Clinic at the SPCA, which operates by appointment Monday through Friday,” stated SPCA. “We spay and neuter over 8,000 animals every year and provide free surgeries for feral cats year-round.”

The free mobile clinics will serve areas from Chualar to the southern county lines, though dog appointments are currently full. The upcoming dates and locations for the clinics are as follows:

  • Soledad: April 16 and May 7 at the Soledad Lions Club, 161 Park St.
  • King City: April 23 and May 14 at the King City Recreation Center, 401 Division St.

Interested participants must make an appointment and provide a $25 deposit to secure their spot; deposits are fully refundable upon arrival with the pet. The free surgeries will also include rabies vaccinations and FVRCP. It is important to note that feral cats should be transported in humane traps, while friendly cats must be in carriers.

“Since the SPCA Veterinary Clinic opened in 1976, our work has greatly reduced pet overpopulation in Monterey County,” the SPCA added. “We expect to spay and neuter over 8,000 local animals this year, including over 1,600 free feral cat surgeries.”

Support from donors plays a crucial role in enabling these lifesaving services, which encompass everything from spay/neuter procedures to rescue missions and pet food banking. Donations can be made online at spcamc.org/donate.

Residents interested in participating in the mobile clinics can secure their appointments by visiting spcamc.org/vet-clinic.
