KING CITY — Sol Treasures has announced a new chapter in its organizational leadership, along with welcoming new board members and celebrating a growing regional arts partnership as the organization continues to enrich South Monterey County through arts, education and cultural connection.

Sol Treasures is now guided by a co-leadership model that brings together the strengths of Executive Director Maria Turner and Strategic Development Director Jude Yriarte. Together, they share responsibility for the organization’s direction, vision and impact.

“Sol Treasures is entering a powerful new season of impact,” Turner said. “I’m honored to serve in this role and to work alongside Jude through this co-leadership model. It reflects our values of collaboration and shared purpose.”

As the director of strategic development, Yriarte said she is excited to focus on long-term vision, partnerships and sustainability.

“Maria and I bring different strengths to the table, and together we’re committed to deepening Sol Treasures’ role as a creative and cultural anchor in the region,” she added.

Board transitions and new members

Three new members have joined the Sol Treasures Board of Directors. They include:

  • Oscar Avalos, with West Coast Community Bank, and an advocate for economic growth in Monterey County;
  • Alicia Trujillo, with the City of King and the King City Chamber of Commerce; and
  • Salma Calito, with the Monterey Museum of Art.

The organization also honored the retirement of longtime board member and founder Sonia Chapa, whose years of service and leadership helped shape the vision and enduring spirit of Sol Treasures.

“Her impact on youth arts access and community creativity will remain a lasting legacy,” stated the organization.

Continuing Board Members Teri Umbarger, Jamie Jones and Jessica Riley are “enthusiastic about supporting this new phase and working alongside the leadership team to further Sol Treasures’ mission,” according to the organization.
