SALINAS VALLEY — In their divisional opening game, the host King City Mustangs softball team beat the visiting Soledad Aztecs by a 13-4 tally.

The Mustangs finished the game with 16 hits and were led in hitting with four hits by Katia Slama and three hits apiece by Avery Munoz and Kaylin Arvizu. Alizah Carrillo pitched seven innings and struck out five Soledad batters.

The defending Central Coast Section champion Mustangs improved to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the Mission Division. Soledad fell to 0-1 in the Mission Division and 5-4-1 overall.

King City has a busy schedule as they played Tuesday at North Salinas, play Thursday at home with Everett Alvarez and host the Carmel Padres on Friday. Soledad hosted Alisal on Tuesday and will play at North Salinas on Thursday.

Gonzales (0-5) played three games in the Watsonville Tournament and will host North Monterey County on Wednesday and play Rancho San Juan on Thursday.

Greenfield (0-3) plays at Monte Vista Christian on Wednesday and competes Friday at Rancho San Juan.
