KING CITY — King City Library will be closed this week for re-carpeting. Monterey County Free Libraries’ Bookmobile and Pop-Up Library will be available across the street at the future site of the local history center on North Vanderhurst Avenue, each day through Saturday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.


SALINAS — National Steinbeck Center will host an academic conference on Thursday, Sept. 29, to share various perspectives and research analyzing John Steinbeck’s “East of Eden” novel. The conference, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature short lectures and panel discussions from literary scholars and graduate students. SOLEDAD — Soledad-Mission Recreation District will celebrate 60 years of its inception on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Soledad Pool, 570 Walker Drive, in Soledad.
