TROOP DONATIONS

KING CITY — Southern Monterey County Republican Women Federated has partnered with Operation: Care and Comfort and will be collecting items to be sent to servicemen and women serving overseas on Oct. 4. Anyone who would like to participate can drop off items for the troops at the Rustler/Tribune newspaper office, 522-B Broadway St. in King City, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the King City Library, 402 Broadway St.; or call 831-385-1333 to arrange a pick up. A list of desired items is also available at those locations. Money donations can be cash, check or money order made payable to Operation: Care and Comfort.


CHAMBER MIXER

SOLEDAD — Soledad Community Health Care District has partnered with the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce to host a Chamber Mixer on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join the event in the gardens adjacent to Eden Valley at 612 Main St. in Soledad, where there will be music, drinks, small bites and more. HOMEBUYER WORKSHOP

MONTEREY COUNTY — ECHO Housing will conduct a free Homebuyer Education Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop is for any residents living in the cities of Monterey County, and will help them determine if they are ready for homeownership, how to select a lender and shop for a home, closing costs, what to expect in the loan and escrow process, and more. BONUS BRIEF: COACHES NEEDED

SOLEDAD — Soledad Parks and Recreation is in need of volunteer coaches for several sports this fall. Coaches are wanted for youth grades 6-8 in basketball; youth ages 5-7 and 8-14 in football; and youth ages 5-6, 7-9 and 10-13 in soccer. Children of coaches play for free.
