TRUNK OR TREAT

GONZALES — City of Gonzales will host its annual Halloween events on Saturday, Oct. 25. The festivities include a Trunk or Treat celebration from 3 to 5 p.m. at Centennial Park, followed by a family-friendly movie screening of “Halloweentown” starting at 7:30 p.m. The event features costume contests, pumpkin patches, games and more. Entry is free for all attendees. Participants are encouraged to register their vehicles for the Trunk or Treat event by contacting City Hall at 831-675-4206 or using the link surveymonkey.com/r/FQVM9MB. Community members are also welcome to donate candy for the event by stopping by City Hall. UPDATE (11 a.m.): The movie screening has been canceled due to potential high wind in the area.


DAY OF THE DEAD

KING CITY — The King City community is celebrating Día de los Muertos with a festive event on Sunday, Oct. 26. Presented by Sol Treasures, La Cocina and other organizations, the celebration will kick off with a parade at 11 a.m., from Third Street to San Lorenzo Avenue, leading to the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds. Following the parade, attendees can enjoy an after-party featuring music, dance, food, altars and a Catrina/Catrin contest. The event is free and open to all, offering a vibrant cultural experience to honor and remember loved ones.


FALL IN LOVE GALA

SALINAS — BirchBark Foundation will host its 2025 Fall in Love Gala on Sunday, Oct. 26, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Hospitality Pavilion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, 1021 Monterey-Salinas Highway, in Salinas. The evening will celebrate the human-animal bond and raise critical funds to provide financial assistance for low-income pet owners whose animals need life-saving veterinary care. The event will feature fine dining, live and silent auctions and a dessert auction, along with heartwarming stories about pets whose lives were saved thanks to BirchBark’s mission. BONUS BRIEF: ART RECEPTION

SALINAS VALLEY — The community is invited to attend a special evening reception for the “Life on Art” exhibit, now on display at the County of Monterey Administration Building, 168 W. Alisal St., in Salinas. The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The exhibit showcases artwork created by inmates from Correctional Training Facility (CTF) in Soledad, highlighting their stories through video, audio and visual art. This program supports inmate education and mental health, aiming to prepare inmates for reintegration and reduce recidivism. Visitors will also have the opportunity to send their thoughts directly to the artists. The exhibit is open to the public weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 31.
