MURALS CELEBRATION

SOLEDAD — A ribbon-cutting celebration for the Downtown Murals project will take place Saturday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cesar Chavez Park, 555 Front St., in Soledad. There will be an opportunity to meet the local artists behind the new murals and discover the stories and historical significance behind their designs. In addition, the free event will feature fun activities for children, along with refreshments and snacks for everyone.


SPCA GRANT

MONTEREY COUNTY — SPCA Monterey County in Salinas was selected as one of the 20 final recipients of the 2024 Zoetis Product Grant. This grant, part of Zoetis and Adopt a Pet’s nationwide initiative, provides shelters with flea, tick and heartworm prevention products, as well as essential vaccines and antibiotics for shelter animals. The program, aimed at enhancing health care access for pets in shelters and rescues, has donated more than $2 million in products to 40 animal welfare organizations across the U.S. this year.

SALINAS — ALBA (Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association) was recently featured on CBS National News, highlighting the innovative program that supports farmworkers in becoming independent farm operators. The segment, covered by Len Ramirez, showcases how ALBA is making a significant impact in the lives of immigrant farmworkers, primarily from Mexico and Central America, by providing them with the resources and training needed to succeed in sustainable agriculture. In the segment, several ALBA graduates share their inspiring journeys from farm labor to owning their own farms, demonstrating the effectiveness of ALBA’s comprehensive training programs and access to land. The program not only teaches essential farming techniques, but also connects participants with local markets, creating a network of support that enables them to thrive in the agricultural sector.
