King City seeks input on Salinas River trail expansion

KING CITY — The City of King and Monterey County are seeking public input on plans to expand pedestrian trails at San Lorenzo Park and along the Salinas River.

Officials say feedback will help guide early planning and ensure the trails reflect community priorities. The Salinas River is an important part of the city’s history and environment, and expanded trails could improve recreation, connectivity, health and access to nature.

Residents can complete a survey at tinyurl.com/2za9bhk4. The deadline to submit responses is March 18.

Housing Authority celebrates Fairview complex opening

SALINAS — The Housing Authority of the County of Monterey hosted a grand-opening ceremony on March 5 to celebrate the acquisition and renovation of the former Fairview Inn at 1030 Fairview Ave. in Salinas.

The Fairview property is a newly acquired 46-unit transitional housing community, including eight ADA-compliant units. All units have been renovated and will serve families and individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

The Fairview project reflects strong collaboration between public agencies and community partners working to expand transitional housing opportunities in Salinas. Funding partners for the Fairview project include the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the City of Salinas and the Monterey County Health Department. The total acquisition cost for the property was $8 million.

In addition to housing, residents will receive comprehensive supportive services provided by Step Up, helping them to connect to essential resources that promote long-term stability and support a successful transition to permanent housing. Leasing and coordinated housing placement will be managed by the County of Monterey Coalition of Homeless Service providers.
