FIREWORKS SHOW

KING CITY — King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture will start the city’s Fourth of July festivities a day early on Thursday, July 3, with a fireworks show beginning at 9 p.m. at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds. The Chamber celebration continues on July 4 with a parade from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., starting at Second Street and Broadway, featuring a vibrant display of community spirit.

PET SAFETY TIPS

MONTEREY COUNTY — SPCA Monterey County advises pet owners that the Fourth of July holiday and surrounding days can be both frightening and dangerous for animals due to fireworks. Many pets become distressed, leading to an increase in stray animals and accidents. To ensure safety, pet owners are encouraged to keep their animals indoors or in secure, familiar spaces with their favorite items, and to use household noises like radios or fans to help calm them. It’s also important not to leave pets outside during fireworks, as they may panic and attempt to escape, risking injury or loss. Ensuring pets wear current ID tags and microchips can aid in recovery if they go missing. For pets prone to noise anxiety, consulting a veterinarian for medication or calming products is recommended. The SPCA emphasizes the importance of immediate action if a pet is lost and reminds the community to review disaster preparedness plans, especially since illegal fireworks can cause fires. The shelter will be closed for adoptions on July 4 but will remain open for emergencies and wildlife rescues, reopening for adoptions at 11 a.m. on July 5.
