POETRY CONTEST

MONTEREY COUNTY — Entries are currently being accepted for the Cowboy Poetry Contest, which is open to youth ages 18 and younger. The contest, sponsored by Monterey County Free Libraries, Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries and California Rodeo Salinas, features prizes that include a swag bag and tickets to this year’s rodeo. Entry forms are due by March 1, and can be picked up at the local library branches or online at emcfl.org.


CHICKEN TAKEOUT

SOLEDAD — Soledad Rotary and American Legion are co-sponsoring a chicken barbecue takeout on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 13. The meal includes chicken, beans, salad, roll and beverage for purchase from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Soledad American Legion Hall, 160 Main St. Assorted desserts are also available. Funds raised will support scholarships for high school students.


FREE SUPPORT

GONZALES — Free support is being offered to family members, friends or neighbors who provide care for children ages 0-5 in Gonzales. Sponsored by the Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County (CAPSLO), United Way Monterey County, City of Gonzales, First 5 and Bright Beginnings, the support includes virtual and in-person playgroups, virtual workshops, reflective groups, connecting with other providers, supplies and resources. BONUS BRIEF: VIRTUAL RUN/WALK

MONTEREY COUNTY — Celebrate Valentine’s Day by joining the 37th annual Together with Love Run/Walk, which helps support the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center’s services and mission to end sexual violence. This virtual 5K and 10K race allows participants to run or walk from anywhere by using the RaceJoy app to track their time. Participants can complete the race between Feb. 14 and Feb. 28.
