PARK VOLUNTEERS

SOLEDAD — Pinnacles National Park Foundation is seeking dedicated individuals to join as volunteers and board members. Opportunities include visitor services, event support, social media, wildlife tracking, fundraising, bookkeeping and other initiatives to protect and enhance the park. No prior experience is necessary for volunteer roles, while candidates with nonprofit leadership experience are encouraged to consider board positions. SUMMER CELEBRATION PERFORMERS

KING CITY — The Artistic Civic League United (TACLU), the Arts Council for Monterey County and Hartnell College are collaborating to host their Summer Celebration of Diversity at Hartnell’s King City Campus on Thursday, Aug. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. They are seeking performers from diverse cultural backgrounds to showcase their heritage through music, dance, poetry and other arts. Each selected artist will receive a $50 stipend. Interested performers can apply at bit.ly/toperform2025. Deadline to apply is Aug. 22 by 7 p.m.


OVERLAY PROJECT

SALINAS — County of Monterey has announced that the Old Stage Road Overlay Project is scheduled to begin on Aug. 25. This work will take place from Alisal Road to Quail Creek. The project will take about two weeks and is expected to be complete by Sept. 12. The work to be done includes grinding the existing pavement and replacing it with new asphalt surfacing, including new striping, marking and reflectors. While most work will be done during daytime hours and not impact traffic, there will be overnight work between the hours of 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Aug. 25-27 and Sept. 2-3. The road will be closed to through traffic during these dates and times. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes. The estimated construction cost is $1.1 million, funded by Measure X and Senate Bill (SB-1). Granite Rock Company is the prime contractor on this project.

CALIFORNIA — The MCSC Women’s Business Center, in partnership with America’s SBDC California and the Cal Poly Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, is hosting a virtual workshop titled “Capital Access & Alternative Funding Pathways” on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 9 to 11 a.m. via Zoom. The session aims to help small business owners and entrepreneurs navigate various funding options critical for growth, including understanding different funding sources, making the right choices and preparing for funding opportunities. Attendees will hear from four expert speakers, including Cecy Toro, Brooks Wise, George Flores and David Benham, and will benefit from a Q&A session.
