TORO PARK TRAFFIC PROJECT
SALINAS — The second phase of the Toro Park traffic management project began on Aug. 6, aiming to improve safety during weekday school drop-offs by reducing cut-through commuter traffic. Building on the success of the pilot program from July 2024 to July 2025, Phase 2 implements early morning partial road closures on Portola Drive from 6 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday, through June 2026. During these times, westbound traffic is restricted at Toro Elementary School’s driveway, preventing vehicles from entering Highway 68 via Torero Drive. The project is a partnership between the County of Monterey, TAMC, and County Service Area 15, with ongoing traffic monitoring and community feedback to evaluate potential permanent solutions.
