NBA CHAMPION MEETUP
MONTEREY — The community is invited to a special Meet and Greet and Book Signing event with NBA player, coach, two-time champion, author and two-time cancer survivor Clifford Ray Jr. and his co-author Laynie D. Weaver on Saturday, April 27. The free event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in front of Old Fisherman’s Grotto on Old Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey. Ray recently released his first book, “Big Clifford Ray Saves the Day,” a children’s book for youth ages 5-8 about the time he saved a bottlenose dolphin named Doctor Spock in 1978. Copies of the book will be available for purchase, and a portion of the book sales will be donated to the Duke Cancer Institute. Ray will also sign Golden State Warriors merchandise (one item per person).
YOUTH MUSIC FINALE
CARMEL — Youth Music Monterey County and Music Director Daniel Brier present their 2024 Season Finale “Legends” on Sunday, April 28, at 4 p.m. at the Sunset Center in Carmel. The community event features students from YMMC’s Honors and Junior Youth Orchestras, South County Strings (Soledad Unified School District), Orchestra in the Schools, Chamber Ensembles and Concerto Competition winners Annette Ma, Emmeline and Abigail Chang. COMMUNITY MEETING
CHUALAR — Caltrans, Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) and Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez are inviting the public to attend a community meeting on Monday, April 29, at 6 p.m. at the Chualar Union Elementary School, 24285 Lincoln St., in Chualar. The meeting will discuss the proposed South of Salinas project in Monterey County that will reduce points of conflict and enhance safety along Highway 101, while maintaining access to adjacent land use. The project will provide travelers with improved circulation to adjacent land for all users, while addressing at-grade cross-median movements and unsignalized at-grade railroad crossings. The proposed project will address safety and operational deficiencies through improvement of existing transportation network to support local and interregional traffic. Improvements will improve conditions at traffic intersections, at-grade intersections, traffic collisions and railroad crossings. Caltrans staff will be present to discuss project details and answer questions from the public.
