FAIR KICKOFF
KING CITY — Salinas Valley Fair will host its Kick Off Take Out BBQ this year with an adjusted format to comply with pandemic gathering guidelines. The chicken barbecue with fixings will be served Saturday, April 17, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the fairgrounds in King City. Tickets are available for purchase at the fair office or from a fair board member. An online auction will precede the take-out meal on April 16 at 7 p.m., with an online silent auction having begun April 1 and running through April 16. MONTEREY COUNTY — Blue Zones Project Monterey County will celebrate National Volunteer Month by hosting community cleanups. A Del Monte Beach Clean-Up will take place on April 16 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 653 Del Monte Avenue in Monterey. A Downtown Salinas Clean-Up will take place April 17, from 12 to 4 p.m. at 252 Main St. in Salinas. A Badger Hills Trailhead Clean-Up will take place April 24 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Toro Creek Road and Highway 68 outside Salinas.

MONTEREY COUNTY — Hospice Giving Foundation along with national, state and community organizations are highlighting the importance of advance healthcare decision-making on Friday, April 16, by recognizing National Healthcare Decisions Day. Hospice Giving Foundation will provide resources at hospicegiving.org/resources. From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., HG Foundation will be connecting with the community through Facebook Live to provide free information and answer questions in English and Spanish about advance care planning and advance directive forms.
