Roses transplanted to make way for new King City High School electronic sign

KING CITY — Twenty-year-old Happy Chappy miniature roses were temporarily removed from the King City High School campus last week to make way for a new electronic sign being installed along Broadway.

The roses were planted in memory of long-time music instructor Leon Olson. The plaque on the planter reads: “In Honor of Leon Olson, King City High School Music Teacher, For the sound of music he brought to our community from 1963-1990.”

Members of the King City in Bloom group and high school staff gathered Sept. 7 to remove the roses. Once the new sign is installed, they plan to transplant the bushes, which have brought colorful displays to the area.
