CHUALAR — Caltrans and the Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) are hosting public meetings to learn more about the US 101 South of Salinas Corridor Improvement Project and South of Salinas Access Management Project.
These meetings will provide information on near-term safety improvements and long-term upgrades for the corridor. Community members will have the opportunity to view design concepts and ask questions directly to the Caltrans and TAMC project team.
“These projects will enhance safety and mobility along Highway 101 south of Salinas by reducing collisions through median closures, easing congestion with upgraded interchanges accesses for residents, businesses and the agricultural community,” according to Caltrans. “Together, the improvements will support long-term economic growth and improve travel reliability in the Salinas Valley.”
The first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Chualar School Gymnasium, 24285 Lincoln St., in Chualar. The second meeting will take place Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 3:30 to 6 p.m., at the Salinas Agriculture Commissioner’s Office, Meeting Room, 1432 Abbott St., in Salinas. Spanish translation will be available at the events.
The purpose of both meetings is to share information regarding the two upcoming projects:
- South of Salinas Access Management Project: This near-term safety project, which is targeted to start construction in 2027, will close the 11 medians between Airport Road and Chualar, precluding all left- and U-turns.
- US 101 South of Salinas Corridor Improvement Project: This longer-term project, which is expected to begin phased construction in 2031, will relocate and/or reconstruct the Abbott Street and Chualar interchanges and construct connecting local frontage roads on the east and west of Highway 101.
“Caltrans thanks the public for their participation and looks forward to working together on these important transportation investments for Monterey County,” stated the agency.
