KING CITY — After a two-week long search, local law enforcement agencies have located and arrested a King City man who stabbed his girlfriend multiple times last month before fleeing the area.
King City Police Department, along with state parole agents and members of the MADCAT Task Force, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol, found Giovanni Velasquez at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 8, in the 300 block of S. Vanderhurst Avenue in King City. He was taken into custody without incident.
“We appreciate the professional cooperation and teamwork of our local law enforcement partners that led to the successful apprehension of this individual,” police said in a news release.
Velasquez, 23, of King City was wanted in connection with a domestic violence incident that resulted in a stabbing Feb. 20 at 8:23 p.m. in the 100 block of Division Street. Police said the female victim, whose name was withheld, suffered multiple stab wounds inflicted by Velasquez, her boyfriend and father of her child.
Velasquez then fled the area in a gray Toyota driven by Alonzo Marquez, 24, a local transient. Shortly after, California Highway Patrol stopped the vehicle at the northbound Highway 101 offramp at Canal Street and Velasquez ran away on foot.
Marquez was arrested and taken to Monterey County Jail on charges of being an accessory after the fact and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
The victim was taken to a local trauma center with non-life threatening injuries.
Velasquez has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, child endangerment, destroying or concealing evidence and delaying or obstructing an officer. He was taken to Monterey County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
