SOLEDAD — Manzoni Vineyards and South County Animal Rescue hosted the second annual Pinot for Paws event June 10 that featured the band Soulfoot. The day consisted of a barbecue lunch, executive raffle, live music, dancing and wine tasting.

“We would like to thank everyone who attended or donated toward our second annual Pinot for Paws event,” said Carla Stewart from the South County Animal Rescue (SCAR). “We are so extremely grateful to the Manzoni family for their partnership in helping South County animals, and for the generosity of our supporters.”

According to Stewart, attendance and profit numbers exceeded last year, raising $4,300. A special guest appearance was made by SCAR alumni pup, Harley. Stewart fostered Harley before she left for her new adopter’s home.

“Having Harley there was a true testament to the work that we do. When Harley came to SCAR, she had such severe damage,” Stewart said. Now, with SCAR’s assistance and the care from her adopters, Foster Fails, her fur is growing back and she has been spayed.

“Our greatest expenses are veterinary costs, as most of the animals that come under our care are neglected or abused, and often require more than just your basic vetting,” Stewart said. “To date, we have already spent over $16,000 on veterinary costs this year, and we just rescued our 300th animal.”
