Bernice Brainard Mason, 96 of Greenfield passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at her home in Greenfield. Bernice was born December 15, 1922 in San Jose, California.

Bernice lived in the Willow Glen section of San Jose for about 20 years then lived in Los Gatos and Saratoga. She attended Willow Glen Grammar school, graduated from Woodrow Wilson Junior High school and San Jose High School. She earned an M.A. Degree at San Jose State College. She majored in Education with a minor in Arts. Some of her favorite past times included gardening, arts and crafts and table decorations.

After high school she worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in San Jose for 19 years. Bernice enjoyed working with children so that inspired her to earn her teaching certificate. While working for the telephone company she attended San Jose State College where she earned a B.A. in Elementary Education. She taught seven years at San Antonio School in Lockwood. She taught 20 years in the Soledad Union School District. She also taught Sunday school working with preschool thru third grade children.

Bernice was involved in several community organization including, past President of the Soledad Teacher’s Assn.; Worthy Matron of La Posa Chapter, O.E.S.; Noble Grand, Amor Rebekah Lodge; past President of Mission Bell Parlor Native Daughters of the Golden West; Past President Monterey County Division 29, California Retired Teachers Assn.; past President, Mee Memorial Hospital Service League.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Pearle Brainard, Sr.; brothers, Robert and Arthur, Jr. and sister, Bettie Stein. She is survived by several nieces and a nephew.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2019 at Eddington Funeral Services Chapel. A Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the King City Bible Church, 50500 Jolon Rd., King City followed by interment in the King City District Cemetery.
