KING CITY — A Caltrans pavement rehabilitation construction project along Highway 101 near King City entered a new phase last week with a long-term lane closure for southbound motorists.

The next stage involves a long-term closure of the No. 1 (left) lane of southbound 101, from one-half mile north of the Jolon Road exit to the First Street exit in King City.

As of Jan. 12, traffic has shifted to the No. 2 (right) lane by way of temporary striping. Over the course of the following week, concrete barriers were put in place, after which paving work began behind the protective railing.

The lane closure is expected to remain in effect through July 2021. Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes, Caltrans said.

In addition, the closure now in place on southbound 101 of the right lane, from First Street to Wildhorse Road, remains in effect until Friday, Jan. 22, as concrete barriers are removed and permanent striping is applied. After Jan. 22, both lanes south of First Street are scheduled to be opened.

OHL, USA of Irvine is the contractor for this $78 million construction project, which is expected to be completed in 2021.
