KING CITY — Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another dementia is a team effort. Whether you are a primary caregiver, a family decision-maker, or a concerned loved one, local resources are available to support you.

Through a partnership between the Alzheimer’s Association, Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center and local volunteers, eight new resource centers have been established in King City with printed materials in both English and Spanish.

These resource centers were launched after local residents — including Dr. Steven Harrison, Barbara Pekema and Justine Heinsen — met with the Alzheimer’s Association and Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center to address the lack of local Alzheimer’s and dementia caregiver support in King City. This volunteer group is currently working to expand dementia programs and services through community presentations, outreach and face-to-face connections.

You can help launch an in-person support group in King City. The King City Alzheimer’s resources committee is looking for volunteers and community partners to help us establish a local Alzheimer’s and other dementia caregiver support group. If you know someone interested in attending a support group, can host a speaking engagement or distribute printed materials, or want to join the volunteer committee, email Philip Geiger, the Regional Director of the Alzheimer’s Association in Monterey County, at pm******@*lz.org
