MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez was sworn in as immediate past chair of the Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) on Jan. 8, continuing his leadership role within the organization.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa administered the Oath of Office during the installation of RCRC’s 2025 officers.
Lopez joins Modoc County Supervisor Geri Byrne (who will serve as chair), Mariposa County Supervisor Miles Menetrey (who will serve as first vice chair), and Santa Barbara County Supervisor Bob Nelson (who will serve as second vice chair). These newly installed 2025 officers will lead the organization in championing public policies on behalf of California’s rural counties.
“Serving as RCRC’s Board Chair in 2024 has been an incredible honor, collaborating with my colleagues to address key issues like wildfire prevention, property insurance and broadband access,” Lopez said. “While much work remains, I am proud to continue in a leadership role at RCRC, advocating for policies that advance opportunities and overall quality of life for rural Californians.”
RCRC is led primarily by four officers comprised of elected rural county supervisors from the organization’s 40-member counties. Monterey County has been a member of RCRC since 2019.
Once being elected second vice chair, it has been the custom for that person to move up the ranks and ultimately lead the organization. As such, Lopez, who served as chair last year, is to now serve as immediate past chair at RCRC in 2025.
