MONTEREY COUNTY — The 2022 Monterey County Fair Junior Livestock Auction is being dedicated to Taylor Farms, the Salinas-based grower and packager of fresh produce that has supported the Fair’s 4-H and FFA exhibitors for more than 20 years by purchasing animals at the auction each year.

This year’s auction will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. in the Livestock Event Center at the Monterey County Fair.

“The heart and soul of the fair is the Junior Livestock program,” said Kelly Violini-Rodoni, Fair CEO. “Many of the exhibitors rely on their earnings from their projects to pay for their college educations. Supporting the junior livestock auction supports our youth and is a great way to fill the freezer.”

The auction follows the format of a traditional auction, with live auctioneers and bidding until the highest bid on a lot is reached. All animals will be sold through the in-person auction with live bidding. Judging and grading will take place in the days prior to auction.

Bruce Taylor and friends founded Taylor Farms in the Salinas Valley in 1995, with the simple, yet ambitious mission to become North America’s favorite maker of salads and healthy fresh foods. Family-owned and founder-led to this day, the Taylor Farms team has grown to 22,000 strong, including 5,000 Taylor Farms employees located in Monterey and San Benito counties.

Taylor Farms’ Ron Guzman will be present for the dedication on Aug. 27.

The 2022 Monterey County Fair is set for Thursday through Monday, Sept. 1-5, at the Monterey County Fair and Event Center, 2004 Fairground Road, in Monterey.
