KING CITY — Monterey County Cattlemen’s Association (MCCA) is bringing back its annual Team Roping and Ranch Rodeo for a full weekend of western tradition at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.
The event kicks off Friday, Aug. 22, with team roping, followed by a dinner and calcutta in the Pavilion Building. Social hour begins at 4:30 p.m., with dinner served at 6:15 p.m. and the calcutta to follow at 7 p.m. Dinner costs $50 at the door and includes top sirloin, scalloped potatoes, broccolini, salad, garlic bread and dessert.
The Ranch Rodeo starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, in the Rava Equestrian Center, featuring classic ranch events with buckles awarded to first-place winners. Kids’ events begin at 11 a.m., and a new Merchant Sorting event—sponsored by local businesses and ranches—will be featured in Friday’s calcutta.
This year’s All-Around Memorial Saddle honors the late Kenny Sabin, a respected cowboy and longtime MCCA member known for his skill, work ethic and dedication to the ranching lifestyle.
In addition to preserving ranching traditions, the MCCA supports local youth in agriculture. This year, $10,000 in scholarships were awarded to students pursuing ag-related education.
Entries are due by Aug. 11. For event registration or more information visit montereycountycattlemen.org or contact Elly Leslie at 805-354-4606.
