KING CITY — Applications are currently being accepted for the prestigious title of Miss Salinas Valley Fair, which is open to any junior or senior high school girl who is a resident or student of school districts in the counties of Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, Northern San Luis Obispo, Parkfield and Coalinga.
The contest will be held at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City on March 16 and 18, and the winner will reign over the 79th annual Salinas Valley Fair in May. Deadline for applicants is Feb. 15.
In addition to her many duties as Miss Salinas Valley Fair, the winner will have the opportunity to represent the fair at local and regional events, including the California Rodeo in Salinas.
“Our ideal candidate is a young woman who loves the Salinas Valley Fair and wants to be an ambassador for the Salinas Valley Fair at local events,” said Darla Mantel, Miss Salinas Valley Fair director and competition chair.
Entrants will be judged on personality (40%), a written test (25%), poise and appearance (20%) and horsemanship (15%). The 2023 Miss Salinas Valley Fair will receive a $2,000 scholarship, a sterling silver belt buckle and other prizes. Awards are also given to the winners of each competition category.
