KING CITY — A King City resident has been arrested in connection with last Sunday’s shooting that injured a man on South Second Street.

According to King City Police Department, officers executed a search warrant Nov. 2 at a residence in the 200 block of North Third Street in King City, where they found the suspect vehicle — a white 2007 Dodge Charger — that was involved in the Oct. 29 incident.

“The investigation developed suspect information where the owner of the vehicle was discovered,” police said in a news release.

The vehicle’s owner, 22-year-old Juan Carlos Almaraz of King City, was subsequently arrested without incident. He was taken to Monterey County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a firearm on a person and accessory to a felony crime.

Police said the community’s outreach assisted the department in finding the involved vehicle and suspect.

On Sunday, Oct. 29, at about 5:24 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of South Second Street, where they discovered a 24-year-old male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was taken to an outside area hospital for treatment, where he is in stable condition.

Police then circulated still images taken from surveillance footage that showed the suspect vehicle in the area.

“The King City Police Department would like to thank the community for their assistance during this investigation and all of the help that was received throughout this incident,” police said.

Last Sunday’s attempted murder was the fourth shooting in King City within two weeks, following similar events on Oct. 20, 22 and 24. A fifth shooting was reported Nov. 2 in the 300 block of South Vanderhurst Avenue. No one was hurt in those incidents.
