KING CITY — Mee Memorial Healthcare System has been recognized for its outstanding performance, earning an “A” grade from the Lown Institute in its 2025-26 Hospital Index.

This nationally acclaimed healthcare think tank’s ranking is a benchmark in the industry, highlighting hospitals that lead in socially responsible healthcare. Mee Memorial’s top-tier scores across all major categories underscore its commitment to excellence, building on its strong showings in the 2024 and 2021 editions of the index.

Mee Memorial Healthcare System achieved an “A” grade in six key areas:

  • Value of Care;
  • Patient Outcomes;
  • Clinical Outcomes;
  • Inclusivity;
  • Social Responsibility; and
  • Cost Efficiency.

“There has never been a more critical time to champion rural healthcare,” said Rena Salamacha, CEO of Mee Memorial Healthcare System. “Mee Memorial exists to ensure the health and wellbeing of the residents of South Monterey County. It is gratifying to see the effort and dedication of our talented team being honored by the Lown Institute.”

The Lown Institute Hospital Index is the first independent ranking to evaluate hospitals based on social responsibility, including such metrics as health equity, value of care and traditional clinical outcomes. Founded in 1973 by Nobel Peace Prize winner Bernard Lown, MD, the index aims to spotlight hospitals that deliver exceptional, high-value patient care to their communities.

Serving nearly 80,000 residents across a 50-mile stretch of southern Monterey County — from Soledad to Bradley — Mee Memorial Healthcare System is the primary healthcare provider for the region’s rural communities.
