SALINAS VALLEY — Little League Major teams from South Monterey County played at last week’s District 9 Tournament of Champions.

The double elimination tournament featured teams from Atlantic, Continental, Ferrasci, Gonzales, Greenfield, Hartnell, Hollister, King City, Manzanita, National and Soledad Little League programs.

Gonzales finished the tournament with a 3-2 record. Gonzales lost 6-1 to Hartnell, then went on a three-game win streak, beating National 4-1, Greenfield 6-2 and King City 12-7. Gonzales completed the TOC with a 5-4 loss to Hartnell.

King City beat National by a 13-8 score, defeated Hollister 6-1, then lost 10-7 to Atlantic, followed by the loss to Gonzales to finish with a 2-2 record. Greenfield was 1-2 as they started with a 7-3 victory over Manzanita, lost to Ferrasci 14-4, and then lost to Gonzales two days later.

Soledad was 1-2 in the tournament as they lost to eventual TOC champion Atlantic 12-2, beat Hollister 6-5, and ended the tournament with a 6-3 loss to Hartnell.

Gonzales Little League Major Angels finished the TOC with a 3-2 record. Players and coaches included: Jordan Torres-Perez, Mateo Zavala, Nathaniel Cruz Hernandez, Raymond Flores, Izaiah Zepeda, Xavier Diaz, Kaleb King, Adrian Hernandez, Diego Serrano, Kai Sibaja, Nathaniel Correa, Head Coach Juan Hernandez and assistant coaches German Hernandez and Andrew Lujan.
