SALINAS VALLEY — California District 9 Little League Division All-Star Tournament began Tuesday for South Monterey County teams.
King City, Greenfield, Soledad and Gonzales are competing in the 11-12-year-old major division and the 8-9-10-year-old division.
All four local major teams began the double elimination tournament on Wednesday. In the major division, Gonzales played against Atlantic at Manzanita in Prunedale; Greenfield played in Salinas at American Little League against Soledad; and King City hosted Manzanita at Art Brusa Field in Gonzales. Other teams in the major eight-team tournament are Hollister and Hartnell.
A win by Gonzales would send them to Atlantic Little League to play the winner of the Greenfield vs. Soledad game on Friday. A loss would send Gonzales home Thursday to host the loser of the Greenfield/Soledad contest.
King City would play the winner of the game between Hollister and Hartnell on Friday, while a loss would have them playing the loser of the Hollister and Hartnell game Thursday.
In the 8-9-10 division, King City played against Hollister on Tuesday at Harnell Little League. On Wednesday, Soledad plays against Hartnell at Manzanita; and Greenfield plays Gonzales at Soledad.
A King City win has them at Continental Little League to play Manzanita, while a loss sends them to Soledad on Wednesday to play the Soledad/Hartnell loser. A win by Soledad would mean a game against the winner of the Greenfield and Gonzales contest that was played at Soledad. A loss by Greenfield or Gonzales would send the teams to Gonzales on Friday.
The nine teams in the 8-9-10 division are: Atlantic, Ferrasci, Gonzales, Greenfield, Hartnell, Hollister, King City, Manzanita and Soledad.
