MONTEREY COUNTY — Lions International District 4C-6, in partnership with the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE), has announced the inaugural Mental Health and Wellness Service Carnival, a community-focused event dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and providing essential resources for well-being.

The carnival, a free public event, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the MCOE, 901 Blanco Circle in Salinas. Students, families and community members are invited to attend this initiative to promote mental health awareness and support within the community.

This unique carnival brings together community members, local organizations, mental health professionals and youth groups for a day of meaningful engagement, education and fun. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops, explore resource booths and enjoy family-friendly activities designed to foster a supportive environment and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

Food trucks will be available on-site for attendees’ convenience.

In conjunction with the carnival, the Lions Eighth Vision Clinic will be held inside the MCOE facilities, offering critical health services including optometrist eye screenings, vision and glaucoma exams, recycled glasses distribution, diabetes testing and hearing testing. These services highlight the connection between overall health and vision, with diabetes being the leading cause of blindness worldwide.

“We are excited to host this event and provide a platform for our community to come together and prioritize mental health,” said Anne Black, District 4C-6 Mental Health Specialist of San Martin Lions. “Our goal is to create a supportive environment where individuals can learn, share, and access the resources they need to enhance their well-being and remove the stigma of mental health.”

The free event is made possible through the collaboration of Lions District 4C-6, the Monterey County Office of Education and numerous nonprofits, community groups and transportation organizations.

“Monterey County Office of Education is proud to partner with Lions District 4C-6 for this impactful Mental Health and Wellness Service Carnival and Vision Clinic,” said Monterey County Superintendent of Schools Deneen Guss. “This event reflects our shared commitment to fostering a healthier, more connected community by providing vital resources and raising awareness about mental health and vision care. We look forward to seeing our community come together to support this important event.”
