To the Editor:
Today is Ash Wednesday, the day Christians are reminded they will return to the dust from which their sacred teachings say they come.
Those teachings also tell them to do justice and let the oppressed go free. “You shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in,” according to the prophet Isaiah.
Are those who turn a blind eye to the suffering being inflicted on their neighbors by powerful people who hate, rather than love others, following these teachings? Those who loudly proclaim this is a Christian nation? I’m sorry I just simply don’t get it.
Weekly protests against this cruelty are expanding every Friday between 4 and 6 p.m. at the corner of Broadway and 101, by the King City welcome sign. Join us for whatever time you can, signs will be provided.
The sign says welcome, not hide in fear, go to prison, be deported and suffer.
What would Jesus do?
