To the Editor:
I am writing because I feel so sad and anxious about the violence at the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday (Jan. 6). President Trump gave vocal encouragement and support to armed protesters who then stormed the Capitol; this was an act of sedition.
Watching these supporters break in, terrorize the members of Congress and other workers, vandalize and loot the halls of the U.S. Congress was horrible to watch ā and five people died in this chaos!
I also feel very disturbed by the disparity between the caution and collusion with which these white rioters were afforded by the police, and how aggressively Black Lives Matter protesters of color were treated in past months by police.
I am hoping that any other citizens who feel these actions were unacceptable will call or email their two U.S. senators and one U.S. representative to ask them to hold the President, other supporters and the rioters accountable for their actions.
If they feel no consequences for their actions, we will suffer more of their violent behavior. And, all it takes for evil to flourish is for good men and women to do nothing.
