KING CITY — Led by the double-digit performances in kills and assists by Grace Shepherd and Megan Flores, the King City Lady Mustang volleyball team defeated the North Salinas Vikings and Seaside Spartans to improve to 3-0 at the start of non-league play. King City beat the Vikings in Salinas in four games and swept the Spartans at home.

At the Vikings gym on Tuesday, Aug. 29, the Lady Mustangs lost the first game 13-25 but recovered to win the next three games 25-14, 26-24, and 25-22. Shepherd led King City with 20 kills and Flores had 25 assists and 15 digs. Flores just missed double digits in kills, finishing with nine. Adding kills were Nancy Andrade with six and Delaney Carroll with four. Cassidy Flores contributed with 16 assists and six digs. Shepherd added 10 digs, followed by Julyssa Arreola with six.

Last Thursday at home against Seaside Shepherd led King City with 12 kills and Flores had 14 assists and five service aces in a 25-8, 25-22, 25-11 win over Seaside. Contributing in kills were Carroll with five, Andrade with four, and Megan Flores with four. Ana Mendez led the Lady Mustangs with seven digs, Shepherd had six, and Andrade finished with five assists.

King City will have a busy week with a game with Notre Dame (yesterday), Everett Alvarez tomorrow in Salinas, and the Watsonville Varsity Tournament on Saturday in the Wildcatz Gym.
