KING CITY — King City Veterinary Clinic hosted its inaugural Paws and Pumpkins Fun Run and Costume Contest on Saturday at San Lorenzo Park in King City.

The family-friendly event — held from 3 to 5 p.m., just before Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum’s annual Haunted Hayride — drew community members of all ages.

“The community came together for an afternoon full of fitness, fun and festive Halloween spirit,” organizers said.

The event featured both 2K and 5K races, attracting about 70 runners, along with numerous spectators. Many participants also dressed up in creative costumes for the human and pet costume contest, showcasing their holiday spirit.

Prizes were awarded to top finishers in both race categories and for the best costumes, celebrating athletic achievement and festive flair. The winners of the 5K run included Paula Giudici in first place, Clayton Giudici in second and Melissa Morales in third.

All proceeds from the Oct. 25 event benefited local causes, including South County Animal Rescue (SCAR) and the Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum (MCARLM).
