KING CITY — King City Council has selected Jose Arreola as the city’s next city manager following an extensive recruitment process.

Arreola, who was chosen from 31 applicants and eight finalists, will succeed Steve Adams upon his retirement after 10 years in the role. The council is expected to formally approve his contract at its Jan. 13 meeting, and Arreola is slated to begin his duties on Feb. 23.

Arreola brings over a decade of experience in public service, including roles in the City of Salinas as community safety program manager, community safety administrator and assistant to the city manager. In these positions, he led several successful initiatives to reduce gang violence, efforts that align closely with King City’s ongoing public safety priorities.

“I’m excited to announce the appointment of Jose Arreola as our new city manager,” said Mayor Mike LeBarre. “Jose brings a proven track record of building safer communities, where he led groundbreaking violence prevention efforts that reduced crime to 15-year lows and empowered residents. His passion for public safety, education and collaboration aligns perfectly with King City’s values — serving our families, supporting our youth and fostering smart growth in our close-knit town. The council and I are confident Jose will lead us forward with integrity and heart. Welcome to the team, Jose!”

Before his tenure in Salinas, Arreola worked as an education specialist for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monterey County and as principal at Downtown College Preparatory Charter School in San Jose. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State University and is bilingual.

“I am honored to serve as King City’s next city manager,” Arreola said. “I am committed to continuing the incredible work of outgoing City Manager Steve Adams and this city council. As a father of three and a longtime public servant in the Salinas Valley, it is deeply meaningful to me to serve King City. I understand the opportunities and challenges facing our region, and I am committed to leading with integrity, collaboration and results. I look forward to partnering with the city council, staff and community to strengthen safety, deliver critical infrastructure projects and ensure King City continues to grow in a fiscally responsible and community-centered way.”

Arreola and his wife Brenda, along with their three children, currently reside in Soledad.

The public is invited to attend a swearing-in ceremony on Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. in the council chambers to welcome the new city manager. For more information, contact King City Hall at 831-385-3281.
