KING CITY — King City High’s cross country teams celebrated the completion of their running season with a dinner and awards night at the school cafeteria.

Runners, coaches and parents attended the Christmas-themed event in semi-formal attire.

“We had tacos for our dinner and we celebrated our seniors there, as it is kind of hard to celebrate them during the season,” said King City head cross country coach Miguel Zendejas. “We have 12 graduating seniors and eight of our runners competed at CCS (Central Coast Section). Our junior varsity boys also were league champions this season.”

Team awards in the varsity boys division were: Ivan Diaz (Most Improved); Fernando Merino (Coaches Award); Alvaro Garcia (Runner of the Year); and Joaquin Arriaga (Senior Scholar-Athlete).

In the girls division, team award winners were: Iriana Yanez (Most Improved) and Areli Delfino (Coaches Award). In the JV boys division, Joandy Fagoaga was the Most Improved Runner.
