KING CITY — King City in Bloom hosted a dedication ceremony on June 24 for the recently completed mural, “A Tribute to Cattle Ranching and the Salinas Valley Fair,” which is the organization’s third historic mural in the town.

Project co-chair Steve Schmidt spoke on the impact of ranching and the fair on the Salinas Valley before the gathered crowd of two-dozen spectators.

Mural project chair Allie Cullen spoke about the hours of research and mural work done by Jennifer Beebe Hargrove and her team of artists, adding that every muralist was a King City High School graduate. The other artists included Julian Lopez, Dawn Owens, Maria Rocha, Haley Rowe, Gloria Sanchez and Bryan Valdez.

Cullen also thanked Denise and Larry Hayes for allowing the use of their building at 1011 Broadway St. to showcase the artwork, as well as the owners of the 89 brands painted around the mural’s border, which was part of a fundraiser to help King City in Bloom members continue their beautification efforts.
