KING CITY — The internet site TheTravel.com has recognized King City, Calif., as one of the “Cutest Small Towns Near California National Parks.”

Among a list of seven small towns, King City was recognized for its proximity to Pinnacles National Park, just 27 miles to the north. The national park is accessible via Metz Road for enjoying the west side of Pinnacles National Park and via Bitterwater Road and Highway 25 to get to the main entrance on the east side.

Described as a “charming agricultural town with a deep connection to its rural roots,” King City is valued for its Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum at San Lorenzo Park. The park features a glimpse into local history with agricultural-related artifacts dating back to the late 1800s. King City was founded in 1886 when the railroad arrived through the land owned by Charles King.

Within the last decade, King City has seen major improvements to its downtown, which is attracting more tourists and travelers. Recently added have been numerous artistic murals, unique wind sculptures, new landscaping featuring asphalt imprinted crosswalks as well as benches and trash receptacles.

The facades of historic buildings have been upgraded, and currently under construction is a new Downtown Plaza that will include the King City Visitor and History Center, a new home for the King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.
