KING CITY — On Aug. 19, almost 100 seniors woke up before the rooster’s call to attend one of King City High School’s newest and most beloved traditions, “Senior Sunrise.”

All bundled up in their blankets, the seniors patiently watched the sunrise as they excitedly talked to friends about the upcoming school year.

As the students ate their pancake breakfast provided by the leadership class and cooked by some KCHS staff members, they understood that for many this would be the last year being surrounded by their friends and classmates they had grown up with for majority of their lives.

Laughing with friends that they had for so many years, that early morning made it seem like it was only yesterday they had met for the first time.

The seniors wrote letters to their future selves about their dreams and aspirations, hoping that once they receive them back at “Senior Sunset” at the end of the year, they will look back on their year feeling proud of the memories they made.

And, as the sun rose gently, and shined on the faces of my peers, for a moment we all knew that this was the beginning of our memorable senior year.
