KING CITY — A King City High School graduate was awarded a $2,000 scholarship in California Water Service Group’s (Cal Water) fourth annual college scholarship cycle, the utility announced.
Scholarship recipient Karina Matadamas was selected for the 2017-18 school year award due to her achievements in community involvement and academics.
Matadamas, who graduated from King City High School in 2016, is now attending Hartnell College, and is studying education. Matadamas has been on the President’s List at her college for the past two semesters and has obtained her Child Development Assistant permit. She says she loves helping children and spends her free time volunteering at a local elementary school.
“Cal Water is committed to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve by investing in both our infrastructure and in our local youth, the future leaders of our communities,” said local Manager Marc Bloom. “This scholarship program is open to all students in our services areas across three states who are pursuing higher education, and I’m proud that one of our own hometown students stands among the winners this year.”
The next scholarship cycle will open in spring 2018 for students pursuing higher education in the fall of 2018. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must live in a Cal Water service area.
Cal Water’s scholarship program is funded through Cal Water’s philanthropic giving program, not ratepayers. The program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. To learn more, visit www.calwater.com/community/scholarship.
