KING CITY — King City Cemetery, an official Wreaths Across America location, will host a wreath-laying ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m., joining more than 4,500 other locations across the country for National Wreaths Across America Day with over 3 million volunteers coming together this year.
Coordinated and led by local volunteers and fundraising groups, they will place wreaths on veterans’ graves at King City Cemetery, 1010 Broadway St. This annual event seeks to further the Wreaths Across America mission of “Remember, Honor and Teach,” ensuring that the memory of those who served the country endures.
Ceremony speakers include King City Mayor Mike LeBarre; Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez; Capt. Pete Gomez Sr., naval science instructor of Soledad High School JROTC; and Fort Hunter Liggett Col. Stephen Trotter.
Fort Hunter Liggett Command team members — Lt. Col. Amorris Conley, Command Sgt. Maj. Troy Buzard and Deputy to the Garrison Commander Michelle McLaughlin — will also be participating at the ceremony.
The community is welcome to attend.
Volunteers are needed to place the wreaths, and should meet at the cemetery at 9 a.m. prior to the ceremony for check-in and instructions. Volunteers are also needed to help mark the veterans’ graves on Friday, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m. at the cemetery.
