Lance Wiershem from RRM Design Group in San Luis Obispo joins Beautification Week chairperson Karen Jernigan (above) during the joint meeting between King City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and King City Rotary Club at San Lorenzo Park’s DeAnza building on June 14.

Wiershem was the guest speaker and discussed drought-resistant landscaping at the annual luncheon that promotes Beautification Week, which runs June 17-25 this year. Every resident who lives and works in King City is asked to do one thing to improve the appearance of their property during this week.

Kicking off this year’s campaign was King City in Bloom’s Town Wide Clean-Up on Saturday morning, during which about 20 volunteers helped pick up trash and spruce up areas around the city (below).

Salinas Valley Recycles and Waste Management, which distributed food scrap pails at last week’s luncheon, will host a Free Compost Giveaway and Workshop on Saturday, June 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.

Other events include a Citywide Yard and Sidewalk Sale from Friday through Sunday, and a Garden Tour on Saturday.
