December is here and we are all getting ready for the holidays. Whether you celebrate the Winter Solstice, Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanza the library has something for you.
1) Our Winter Reading Club starts on Dec. 1, 2025, and runs through Jan. 31, 2026. Reading is so delightful, and we want to encourage everyone to read through the cold, rainy months and have adventures on the page. The goal here is reading for fun! Snuggle up and with a book under a blanket or walk on a treadmill or trail and listen to a book. Everyone who signs up for Winter Reading Club will get a free book and a reading log to start their reading journey. For every 20 minutes of reading, color or check off a snowball on the reading log. After six hours of reading, you get a finisher prize. Alternately, you can track your reading on Beanstack.
2) Our e-resources for December are Libby and Palace Project. These ebook and audiobook platforms function through the Libby and Palace Project apps, which you download from your app store on your smart phone or tablet. When you sign on for the first time, keep your library card handy to input your MCFL library card number. With Libby and Palace, you can check out books when the library is closed.
3) December is also Read a New Book Month! This is your perfect opportunity to read something new. You can download an interesting title from Libby or Palace Project or visit the library and find a title on the shelf to checkout. Make sure to let us know on our FB or IG pages what new book you are reading during our questions of the week.
4) You can find creative fun at a library branch near you and make some holiday crafts! Many of our branches host “Crafternoons.” You can find the craft offerings at a branch near you on the library events calendar. Also, for some holiday cooking ideas, look on FB/IG for holiday recipes in December, contributed by MCFL staff.
5) From Dec. 24 through Jan. 1 all branch libraries will be closed for winter recess and for the holidays. Branches will reopen for business on Jan. 2, 2026. Stop by your local branch to pick up your Winter Reading logs and some books or DVDs before the winter recess.
We wish all our patrons happy holidays and look forward to seeing everyone in the new year.
