Every October, pink ribbons remind us to raise awareness about breast cancer. Awareness matters — but action is what saves lives.
Breast cancer is among the most common cancers diagnosed in women across the United States. The good news is that when caught early, it is highly treatable. One of the most reliable ways to detect it early is through regular mammograms.
At Mee Memorial, our mission is to empower women in our community to make their health a priority. Too often, women put themselves last, yet their well-being is essential — not only for themselves, but for the families, friends and neighbors who depend on them.
We also know that access can be a barrier. Many women here must travel long distances for care, making it tempting to delay this important test.
That’s why we are proud to announce that our diagnostic imaging department will soon offer a new, state-of-the-art mammography system. This technology brings the highest level of screening close to home, so patients can receive expert care without leaving their community or support network. Most importantly, it will save lives.
If you are 40 or older, talk with your healthcare provider about when to begin mammograms. If it has been more than a year since your last one, please consider this your reminder to schedule an appointment. And if you’ve already done so, encourage the women in your life to follow your lead.
For women undergoing treatment who may be struggling financially, the Breast Cancer Assistance Group (BCAG) — an all-volunteer nonprofit of breast cancer survivors — offers special needs grants. Learn more at bcagmc.org.
We are honored to walk beside you on your health journey. Together, let’s take this vital step forward. Schedule your mammogram. Encourage your loved ones. Because early detection saves lives.
