MONTEREY COUNTY — Interim Inc. hosted its annual Friendsgiving Lunch on Friday at the OMNI Resource Center in Salinas, welcoming more than 147 clients and community members, including individuals experiencing homelessness or living with mental health challenges.

The Nov. 22 lunch also served an additional 100-plus meals to Interim’s residential and service programs. The event, supported by Coastal Roots Hospitality, brought together Monterey County individuals who might otherwise spend the holidays alone to share a warm, festive meal.

Each year, Coastal Roots Hospitality partners with Interim to provide over 500 free meals during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Tarpy’s Roadhouse, Rio Grill and Montrio collaborate to prepare meals that are not just nourishing, but also create a sense of belonging for attendees.

This year’s Friendsgiving featured fresh produce donated by 4Earth Farms, via Markon Cooperative Inc., adding a touch of farm-to-table freshness to the celebration.

“Coastal Roots has been a steadfast partner in ensuring these holiday events continue each year, meeting every need we’ve encountered along the way,” said Rhiyan Quiton, executive director of Interim Inc. “Their support means our clients and guests have a warm, welcoming holiday experience — a true reminder of the power of community care and compassion.”

The holiday meals reflect Coastal Roots Hospitality’s commitment to giving back and fostering community connections through food and fellowship.

“We believe in the power of bringing people together through family, friends, and food,” said Ken Donkersloot, owner of Coastal Roots. “It’s not just about the meals; it’s about creating moments of hope and kindness for those who need it most.”

Interim Inc. is Monterey County’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to providing housing, healing and hope to adults living with mental illness. With a range of services, including affordable housing, mental health treatment and peer support, Interim helps clients on their path to recovery and independence.

The OMNI Resource Center is Monterey County’s only peer and family-member-run mental health wellness center, offering free programs and services designed to promote wellness, recovery and social connection.
