KING CITY — The final weeks of football are winding down as the King City Mustangs have a bye week and a final home game with Soledad on Nov. 8.

Mustangs sophomore running back Carson Tidwell was a force on the Rancho San Juan football field on Friday, running for 211 yards on 14 carries and scoring four touchdowns.

King City took a 20-0 halftime lead and sealed the victory with touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.

“I was happy with the win over Rancho San Juan, but overall we need to be much better in two weeks against Soledad,” said King City head coach Mac Villanueva. “We will use the bye week to clean things up to improve. Sophomore Rocky Vasquez did a good job of running the offense in his first varsity start. On defense, Fabian Herrera had two interceptions and Alex Macias had one interception and six tackles. Rocky Villanueva led the defense with nine tackles and one was for a loss.”

Tidwell scored the first points of the game at the 10:06 mark of the first quarter with a five-yard touchdown run. Johell Carrillo added the PAT to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead.

After a defensive stand on the Trailblazers’ first offensive series, the Mustangs took over from their own 30-yard line. Tidwell scored his second touchdown of the game when he took a pitch from Vasquez and sprinted down the home sideline for a 60-yard score. Carrillo missed the PAT and King City led 13-0.

At the 10:36 mark of the second quarter, the Mustangs’ advantage stretched to 20-0 with a 34-yard touchdown run by Tidwell and a successful PAT by Carrillo.

In the second half, Tidwell scored on a two-yard run for his fourth touchdown and the PAT made it 27-0. A fourth quarter 69-yard touchdown running play by Alexander Macias and PAT by Carrillo completed the Mustangs’ scoring at 34-0.

The Mustangs ran 32 plays for a total of 359 rushing yards and 44 passing yards.

After a bye this week, King City concludes the season against Soledad on Senior Night at War Memorial Stadium on Friday, Nov. 8. The Mustangs are 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the Mission South Division of the Pacific Coast Athletic League.
