
KING CITY — One of the best seasons on record for the King City High School football program ended Dec. 17 with an awards night and banquet at the school cafeteria.
Players from the junior varsity and varsity teams joined their families and coaches for a Swiss sausage dinner, along with desserts and drinks to celebrate the season.
JV head coach Jake Stephens and his staff presented their players and handed out special team awards to Alex Perez (Defensive Player of the Year); Deandre Perez (Most Valuable Player); and Bryan Gonzalez (Offensive Player of the Year).
Assisting Stephens this season were: Jonah Mendez, Alex Villasenor, Troy Espino, Abram Nava and Todd “Buddy” Sans.
Varsity head coach Mac Villanueva and his staff then presented the Pacific Coast Athletic League 2025 Mission South Division Champion Mustangs. Each player was given a participation certificate, a PCAL championship certificate, a Central Coast Section certificate, along with their block, and a championship patch.
Villanueva and his staff then announced the Players of the Week for the season. Each player received a custom Mustang sweatshirt.
The Players of the Week and the game they were recognized for their standout play were: Week 1. Nathan Vega vs. North Salinas; Week 2. JC Navarro vs. Gonzales; Week 3. Bye Week; Week 4. Carson Tidwell vs. North Monterey County; Week 5. Johell Carrillo vs. St. Francis; Week 6. Rocky Villanueva vs. Watsonville; Week 7. RJ Ayon vs. Soledad; Week 8. Offensive Line Joaquin Gutierrez, Jden Hernandez, Emmanuel Garcia-Loa, Armando Villasenor and Zac Lopez vs. Everett Alvarez; Week 9. Benji Bolanos vs. Pacific Grove; Week 10. Fernando Camacho vs. Greenfield; and Week 11. Rocky Villanueva vs. Stevenson.
Senior players Alexander Macias, Emmanuel Garcia-Loa and Johell Carrillo were presented with plaques from the King City Rotary for Best Receiver (Macias), Lineman (Garcia-Loa) and All-Purpose Player (Carrillo).
Special team awards were presented to: Rocky Villanueva (Defensive Most Valuable Player); Benjamin Bolanos (Mustang Award); Armando Villasenor (Lineman of the Year); Nate Vega (All-Purpose Player of the Year); and Carson Tidwell (Offensive Most Valuable Player).
