KING CITY — After losses to Hollister and Watsonville, the King City High flag football team hopes to regroup this week with three straight league games.

Last week the Lady Mustangs suffered home losses to Hollister (32-19) and Watsonville (18-16). King City is 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the Gabilan Division.

“It’s definitely tougher in league,” said King City head coach Brent Slama. “We had a three-point loss to Salinas, a two-point loss to Watsonville and we were tied with Hollister at halftime before losing that one.”

Serving as assistant coaches are Ian Espino and Xabier Espinoza.

This season Shyrah McDonald leads the Lady Mustangs with seven touchdowns and 924 rushing yards, followed by quarterback Katia Slama with six touchdowns and 459 yards.

McDonald is second in receiving with 66 receptions for 739 yards and seven touchdowns, and Samantha Muniz leads the King City receivers with 66 receptions for 802 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Katia Slama has thrown for 51 touchdowns and 2,825 yards. Muniz leads the team in scoring with 112 total points.

Games this week for King City include Alisal on the road (Oct. 7), Rancho San Juan at home (Oct. 8) and a road game Wednesday night at Soledad High.
