PARKFIELD — A fire broke out at the California Flats Solar facility along Turkey Flat Road in Parkfield on Saturday, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
The Aug. 30 incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when Cal Fire responded to reports of a vegetation fire near the solar installation in southern Monterey County. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a battery at the facility was on fire, raising concerns about potential escalation.
The blaze prompted a coordinated response between Cal Fire and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, leading to the issuance of an evacuation order for residents within a two-mile radius southeast of Parkfield, specifically in areas surrounding the solar plant on the 92000 block of Turkey Flat Road.
A total of five residences were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Representatives from Tesla Field Services arrived on scene and conducted an assessment. They determined that there was no immediate danger to the public and recommended lifting the evacuation order.
The Sheriff’s Office subsequently lifted the evacuation order, allowing residents to return home, while a Tesla Field Service Response Team remained on site to monitor the situation closely.
