KING CITY — A drive-thru Christmas parade brought the holiday spirit to King City last Saturday, during which decorated vehicles parked at King City Golf Course and set up as exhibits while community members drove by at a safe distance to view them.

The first-ever King City Candy Cane Drive was organized by Elaine Rosales and Bibiana Garcia as a community-led alternative to the King City Chamber’s Annual Lighted Christmas Parade, which was canceled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A toy giveaway was also held with Santa, played by James Ruiz, who handed out toys to local children.

Cars were lined up a half hour before the Dec. 12 event began at 6 p.m., and the backup beyond King City Pool lasted for most of the duration, until it ended at 7:30 p.m.

Since the group ran out of toys before they closed, Rosales said plans are in the works for a Letters to Santa barrel to be placed at 528 Division St. with the possibility of a response from Santa with other gifts.
